In this easy tutorial, we will create a Thank You Instagram Template post using the Blend Tool and Rectangle tool in Adobe Illustrator.
- Create a new document of width and height 1080px.
- Using the rectangle tool (shortcut M), create a rectangle of width and height 1080px.
- Align it to the center if the Artboard, using the Align panel.
- Create a rectangle of width and height 300px.
- Align it to the top and left of the Artboard, using the Align panel.
- Create a rectangle of width and height 900px.
- Align it to the bottom and right of the Artboard, using the Align panel.
- Creating the Blend:
- Using the Selection tool (shortcut V), select both the inner squares.
- Click on Object > Blend > Make.
- Click on Object > Blend > Blend Options.
- Choose the following Blend Options and click OK:
- Spacing – Specified Steps
- Number of steps – 4
- Keeping it selected, click on Object > Blend > Expand.
- Creating the Geometric Blocks:
- Using the Selection tool (shortcut V), drag and select all contents of the Artboard.
- Click on Pathfinder panel > Divide.
- Choosing Colors:
- Under Swatches panel, choose a purple color.
- Under Color Guide panel, select 6 shades of purple, holding Cmd in Mac/ Cntrl in Windows.
- Click on the bottom right button “Save color group to Swatch panel”. Now these colors are added to the Swatches panel.
- Filling the blocks with the different shades:
- Using the Selection tool (shortcut V), drag and select all contents of the Artboard.
- Under the Toolbar on the left side, ensure that the stroke is set to none and the fill is now selected.
- Click on the Live Paint Bucket tool (shortcut K) in the Toolbar.
- Now from under the Swatches panel, choose the lightest shade of purple from our newly created swatch group and click on the innermost square.
- In the same manner, choose the other shades one by one and fill each block.
- After filling all areas, click on Object > Live Paint > Expand.
- Creating the “Thank You” text:
- Using the Type tool, click anywhere in the working area.
- From the Character panel, select any font family and suitable size of your choice. ( I chose the Google font – Raleway medium and size – 100px).
- Using the Paragraph panel, center align the text.
- Click on the text, delete the default text and type “T”.
- Drag and place the “T” at the center of the 2nd inner block.
- Click and drag on the right side holding Option in Mac / Alt in Windows and Shift key. ( Option to duplicate and Shift to align horizontally )
- Use the Smart Guides (pink lines in the video) to ensure that the letters are at the center of the blocks. ( Make sure there is a tick on Smart Guides from under View > Smart Guides )
- Click Cmd D in Mac / Cntrl D in Windows – 3 times to duplicate the above action 3 times.
- Holding Shift, select the middle 3 letters.
- Click and drag on the bottom side holding Option in Mac / Alt in Windows and Shift key.
- Select each letter separately. Using the Type tool, delete the existing T and type the letters of the words “Thank You”.
- Select each letter separately. Under Swatches panel, choose the shade of purple of your choice and color the letters.
